Ven-Allen Lubin, a 4 star prospect standing 6 foot 7 and 205 pounds, is ranked 63rd in the 2022 class and 8th at his power forward position. Lubin had a productive summer and picked up offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Notre Dame, and Florida. Ven Lubin cut his list down to seven schools (Florida, Auburn, Notre Dame, Alabama, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech) on August 31st. The four star prospect has already visited most of the other schools included in his top 8 and will be on Notre Dame's campus this weekend, the imposing big man is hoping to commit in November.
With Paul Atkinson Jr and Nate Laszewski leaving after the 2021-22 year, Notre dame lacks a quality power forward that they had in the past. Yes, Elijah Taylor can develop into that guy, but you have to take into account that he's coming off a major left ankle injury that sidelined him for 6 months and ended his freshman season. Taylor has an extra year of eligibility if he takes it, well that's up to him. Given that information, Lubin would fill a need that Mike Brey and the Notre Dame coaching staff has been searching since the signing of Atkinson and the departure of Durham. I have compared Lubin's game to Indiana Forward Trayce Jackson Davis and that comparison could very well materialize. Lubin looks better coming out of high school, more talented, and is in a better program for his game in my eyes.
Lubin can shoot the ball effectively from the mid range and behind the arc, can create for himself and distribute the ball. The development of Ven-Lubin's playmaking and leadership took a huge step in the right direct this summer as well. Ven-Lubin's versatility also has a case for his best asset, he can guard any position on the floor. Not only that, but he has the speed, agility, and IQ to defends smaller guards in college. Overall Ven-Lubin is everything that Notre Dame is looking for in a combo forward and would be a welcome addition to a 2022 class that the Irish staff has high hopes for.
Mike Brey and Staff appear to be pushing for Ven-Lubin, If all goes as planned, Notre Dame could end up with a class of JJ Starling, Dom Campbell, and Ven-Lubin. A class like this would be a shot in the arm for an Irish program that is in need of one. This weekend's visit is a big opportunity for the staff to add another talented piece to the equation.
