In late July Mike Brey and the rest of the Notre Dame coaching staff were extremely active in class of 2022 recruiting as they sent out four offers in one day, along with two others a few days later. One guy who all of our writers were really excited to see the staff throw out an offer to was 6'9 Forward Isaac Traudt, and we weren't the only ones who were excited about it.
The Nebraska native told us the Notre Dame offer "Meant a lot for sure." He also added that "Coach Brey and Notre Dame have done a great job the past 20 years, especially with skilled wings like myself." In addition to basketball, Traudt added that "Notre Dame is a prestigious university and offers really good academics as well". It is obvious that academics are important to the rising Junior, and Notre Dame seems to check that box.
When asked what he would tell Notre Dame fans about his game, Traudt described himself as "a skilled 6'9" Wing that can play and guard a variety of positions". He also added that he is a good shooter, ball handler, passer, and that he has a high basketball IQ. As for the defensive end he said that he is "a good rim protector and can stay in front of people." Traudt's size, versatility, and ability on both ends are definitely appealing to college coaches and allow him to contribute in pretty much any system.
This summer the Notre Dame offeree said he "focused on strength and getting to the rim. I gained 15 pounds of muscle over the quarantine" and "got really good getting to the rim." Last season Traudt averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 40% from three, now with his improved ability to attack the basket he is a huge threat (not like he wasn't before) from all three levels and I expect him to take a decent leap statistically. Especially considering that a few months ago he said that he is the only returning rotation player on his high school team and his role will increase.
As for when he will be committing, the top 70 recruit said "I don't really have a set timeline. I think it will still be awhile until I commit because I want to be able to visit campuses when it's allowed and develop better relationships with coaches." Later he added that he would love to visit Notre Dame when he is allowed to because he's heard "great things about the campus and I know that their fanbase is very supportive."
Although Traudt has offers from tons of high major schools including Oregon, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and in state Nebraska. He does seem to have legitimate interest in Notre Dame. Although he said he dosen't know any players or have any family connections to Notre Dame, the forward said he is "still very interested in Notre Dame and think(s) it could be a really good fit."
I also asked the 2022 recruit what he likes about Notre Dame and he had a lot to say. Traudt said "I really like the coaches I've talked to so far (I think he has talked to Coach Humphrey and Coach Brey). I also like their fanbase and I've heard great things about the campus. I really like what coach Brey and staff have accomplished in his 20 year tenure and I look forward to watching them play this year."
Overall Traudt seems to have legitimate interest in Notre Dame which is all you can ask for this early in his recruitment. Here are some other articles where I mention Traudt, If you want a more in depth look at his game. Keep in mind one of these was written before Notre Dame offered.
