This morning the Notre Dame staff was very busy as they threw out two offers in the Class of 2021. As of yesterday, Notre Dame only had one offer out in the class of 2021,to 4 star top 100 prospect Blake Wesley. Although the South Bend native seems to have legitimate interest in joining his friend JR Konieczny at Notre Dame, they would be mistaken to put all their chips in one basket. That's why this morning the staff threw out offers to Dematha guard Jordan Hawkins and Montverde academy forward DaRon Holmes ll. Both of these guys are top 50 prospects in the class of '21 and would be a huge addition to the 2021-2022 roster, which already projects to be one of Mike Brey's deepest teams ever. Here is a quick breakdown of each.
Jordan Hawkins
Top 50 prospect Jordan Hawkins made news this morning when announcing on Twitter that Notre Dame has offered him. ND has been rumored to be interested in Hawkins for some time now, so it doesn't come as too much of a surprise that they decided to offer today. What is surprising is the timing. Hawkins is expected to release his top 11 schools list on August 1st, so the offer comes just days before he is set to cut his list. The rising senior holds offers from Louisville, Clemson, Xavier, and Florida, among others. As for Hawkins as a player there is a lot to be excited about. In the limited film I've seen, Hawkins is really smooth offensively and can score effectively at all three levels. The Dematha shooting guard projects to be a great fit in Brey's system and would play a similar role as Blake Wesley. Although Notre Dame didn't offer early on, it isn't super far fetched to say they could land the four star recruit because of Mike Brey's connection to Dematha. In recent years Brey has landed highly regarded recruits such as Jerian Grant and DJ Harvey from Dematha so I wouldn't count them out of this one.
DaRon Holmes
Just a few minutes after Jordan Hawkins announced that Notre Dame had offered him, we got a second piece of news and that was another Twitter announcement coming from 4 star power forward DaRon Holmes. Holmes is the 37th ranked player in the class of 2021 by Rivals. The Monteverde power forward holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and a few others including Notre Dame. Holmes' dad attended Notre Dame so like Hawkins there could be a connection between him and ND. Here is what the rising senior told Irish sports Daily about Notre Dame, “I know it’s a really prestigious school, especially academically, which is really good. I’ve watched them during the ACC and I like the way they play, their style of play. Great team, great coaching, just a great program in general.” It seems like Holmes has legitimate interest in Notre Dame and it would be great if they could land a top 50 guy like him or Hawkins in addition to JR Konieczny.
